Art Trading Cards

I think I am going to start making small pieces of art to trade with other artists. I heard about this at the workshop I went to this summer and thought it would be cool to trade art. Here is the piece I made this summer it is a 5x7 and I think I might go even smaller. If any artists are interested in trading let me know!

Reflection of Summer

This summer has been a busy one...I started a new job, took a ceramics class, went to the AP ART summer institute, my brother got married, we went to NYC, Toronto, Niagara Falls, spent time at the lake, visited my Aunt in San Francisco, made a lot of art, and we are heading to Colorado next week. Through all this I have found my love for Art again. In my first two years of teaching I barely made any art and now I can't stop. I feel addicted to creating. I can't get enough! I have this urge to create that I have never experienced before. Through art I have also begun taking great pride in cooking. Now I express myself through food and use cooking as another outlet to create. I hope I can keep this up because working like this can be exhausting. Now I must find a way to be a wife and teacher, work on art, and cook all at the same time... I am tired just thinking about that. The next thing on my list is to learn to sew... I have always admired textile artists and women who create functional art. I love color, pattern and crafty things so I think it will be right up my alley.

White Tail Deer

Here is the inspiration for my next series of work... I have had the amazing opportunity to attend a work shop about teaching AP Art. I have spent the last week working with and learning from a ton of amazing teachers and artists. We were instructed to create a small body of work using specific techniques, this has challenged me out of my comfort zone to try new ways of creating sticker art. I think the techniques I have learned have pushed me personally in my art and it has been a great experience.

College Art

I was going through some old portfolio's and I found some art from college. I didn't like them while I was in school but I kinda like them now. I don't know why I love so much color on everything. I have always loved the colorful art from Mexico and I think it reflects in the work I make.

Mermaid

This mermaid was inspired by a Christmas ornament my Mom got for me in Mexico. I have several that go on our Christmas Tree. I love it so much I thought I would make a small sticker pieces. This is about 9" x 12" (a little smaller) on wood.

Art Connection

The Artist Reception was great and I was very lucky to have my family there for support. I didn't win anything but I did get some very encouraging comments. It was funny watching people walk by my pieces and then slowly realize what it was made of and then go in for a closer look. The Irving Community Center is an amazing place and offers some great opportunities. You should check it out and become a member.

New Project

My Grandma gave me a bag of old photos of my Grandpa, Mom, Aunt Eva, and Uncle George. I really love this tray now because I love the people on it. I hope someone in the family will want this :)

Can you guess who this is?

Can anyone guess who this is? This was a struggle and it didn't come out exactly how I wanted...probably because of the lack of planning on my part. I like some parts but there are others that really bother me and I am still figuring out how to fix them.

Clay

I had my first experience with clay during my 3rd year of college and I found it extremely difficult. It was hard for me to transfer my ability as a painter into the world of ceramics. Everything I did turned out horrible! I realize now that fear and lack of effort were holding me back. If it weren't for my new job I would have probably done everything in my power to stay away from clay... I am so glad I didn't :) I have definitely found a love for clay in these past 5 weeks of "summer school" and I look forward to taking this class again in the fall.

San Francisco

I am currently in San Francisco and I took this picture while I was out with my Aunt Eva walking her dogs. It is a beautiful church at the corner of her street, I loved how the light and fog worked together in the photo. This will probably be my next painting

The Gun

Well, I guess I will start blogging to keep you updated on my art work, teaching, and life. I am a horrible writer so we will see how this goes. Here is a picture of my latest piece...The Gun. Right now I am taking a ceramics class, working on sticker pieces, and re-working some pieces from college. I will post before and after pictures. I am hoping to have the Gun piece in a show at the Irving Community Art Center in the middle of July.
And...I'll be heading to San Francisco with my Sister, Cousin, and Aunt tomorrow!
